This month's Marionberry Style "Challenge" is stripes...which is why I put that in quotes because with my collection of striped shirts, it wasn't really a challenge. When I was trying to figure out which shirt to wear, I realized I haven't actually worn my sequin striped shirt to work. Back when Whitney and I did our 4-ways-to-wear-this-shirt challenge (mine here, hers here), she layered a collared shirt underneath it. I thought it looked so great on her that I wanted to try it too.
The shirt I used for layering used to have sleeves - until I hulked out in it during a time I was doing 60 pushups a work out session (which no longer happens, because my body structure does not need more bulk in the arms). I was wearing it mostly as a layering shirt at that point anyway, so I just cut off the sleeves where the rips had started. It actually makes it easier to wear now since I don't have to worry about rolling sleeves and adding even more bulk.
Also, my nails have been bare for the last 2 days and it's driving me nuts. I hate the feeling of bare nails, but I just ran out of my favorite top coat (Seche Vite...go buy it immediately) and I'm doing some physician shadowing on Friday so no crazy nails for me. But trust, come Saturday my nails WILL have color on them.

I love this! I wouldn't have expected the polka dotted undershirt to go so well with a striped + sequins top, but it does!! It's really a perfect outfit. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that sweater. I'm trying out the impress press-on nails
ReplyDeleteLet us know what you think Amy! i've always been interested in them.
DeleteI love that top! Sequins are sometimes scary to me, but the stripes really tone them down here.
ReplyDeleteI just started doing my nails more regularly but find that they get get sort of weak/brittle if I don't let them bare for a while between. I'm pretty sure it's from the polish remover. What kind of nail polish remover do you use?
Sequins are pretty scary to me - so much sparkling is distracting ;)
DeleteI'm using the cheapo non-acetone remover from target. maybe it's all the cheese I eat that keeps my nails strong? ha - but seriously, I wish I had some piece of advice to help :(
You just gave me a great idea for one of my black and white sleeveless tops! lol I wish I could say I had "hulk" arms from pushups. More like from picking up the fork.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you mixed patterns here. It's so subtle and works perfectly. Great outfit!
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a great linkup idea! I'll have to see if I can be ready for the next one since I highly doubt I can think of a striped outfit for tomorrow.
It's like opposite day when you have bare nails and MINE ARE PAINTED.
ReplyDeleteAnd you cut off the sleeves to your top? I guess that makes sense.... but YOU CUT THEM OFF? ok. Still looks super cute though so I guess you're ok. :)
Love this look! I really love layering collared shirts under other shirts and sweaters. I agree that stripes are a fundamental part of my wardrobe and not much of a challenge haha. Great look :)

I love how you did your hair today.. show meeeee?
ReplyDeletewell for this particular hair style, you must be lazy and not wash your hair for at least 2 days. Then you douse it was dry shampoo and hair spray. then you curl the hair, tease half of it and pin it back, and pray it stays curled for at least a few hours
Delete:)
I absolutely love this combo! Will be borrowing (and linking back of course) very soon :)

60 pushups!? Dear God, woman, were you a body builder in another life? I workout a lot but I still don't think my wimpy little arms will lift my body up more than twice, let alone 60 times, haha.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't think I've ever commended you on this, but you are like a nail art genius. I'm super super picky about nail art, meaning I usually find it distracting and ugly and 99% of the time my nails just have one color on them, but your nails look SO classy and cute when you do them!
Also also, I saw this shirt at Loft forever ago and walked away from it. So sad I did. It looks adorable on you, and I love it with the pattern underneath it! :)
Seche Vite is my favorite top coat too! Love your pretty top :)

(1) So glad you posted this early, I would've totally forgotten to post my stripey outfit tomorrow (even though I put it in my danged calendar so I would remember!); (2) 60 pushups! Work it gurllll! (3) Haha at hulking out, love that phrase; (4) I LOVE this shirt on you, it's so sparkly and fun but classic at the same time; (5) the polka dots peeking out are SO freaking cute, love! (6) I don't think I've ever seen your nails with no polish! Can't wait to see your next mani! Okay I think that's all... :)
ReplyDeleteThis shirt is so cute and I love how you layered it over the polka dots - very subtle print mixing :)

That striped shirt via the loft is all sorts of amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI love how it has that glittery element that is perfect for the holidays but has an element that will transition effortlessly into spring. Also, I know you're hating the bare nails but i think they look great! And if you love seche vite, definitely try revlon colorstay! GORGEOUS.
xoxo,

Thanks girl - I will definitely look into colorstay!
DeleteI love stripes and dots, I know some people hate all that pattern mixing but I just see both of them as a neutral really. Your hair is looking very pretty in these pictures, all wavy and wafty. Good work!
ReplyDeleteStripes + Dots = Homerun every time! I went with bare nails yesterday and it's freaking me out. Though, it might be for the best. They're a bit stained from months of color!
ReplyDeleteLove this... And that's a great idea, cutting off those sleeves. I love sleeveless tops for layering. Cute without bulk :)
ReplyDeleteSparkle and stripes?! Definitely nailed the trend of the month challenge! I could easily see this outfit fit in the workplace.

ReplyDeleteAhhh!!! You bought the shirt I wanted!! I kept eyeing it on loft.com and by the time I decided I wanted to go for it, it was gone. It looks SO cute with that other shirt. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI love that sweater!!!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA you "hulked it out" That is just awesome. :-) Cute post, can't wait to see your new nails!

This is such a lovely look!
ReplyDeleteI love the polka dots peeking out :)
Cute! Looks like we both went the stripes + polka dots route with the link-up today! Except upon closer inspection, those don't look like polka dots, but close enough. Nice work on the pattern mixing!
ReplyDeleteAnd holy cow, 60 pushups. I'm in awe. I have nearly no upper-body strength to speak of.
Sequins and stripes are always a happy combo in my book! Love this pattern mixing idea, great job! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the mix of sparkles and stripes!

Seche vite is on my list when my spending freeze is over. I have heard raves about it. My aunt has used it for years. I'm over the crappy top coats.
ReplyDeleteI love stripes but am always afraid to wear them. I wonder if there's a word for fear of stripes?
Stopped by from Marionberry. Love the way you paired your stripes and polka dots!!
ReplyDeleteLove that shirt!
ReplyDeletePolka dots and stripes are totally one of my favorite combinations! As evidenced by the fact that I also wore it today.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I LOVE that you saved your shirt by removing the sleeves. I've only ever done that to race shirts. Of course, I can barely manage 10 push-ups at a time so I don't think I'll be busting out of my button-downs any time soon.
i love your top! and the way you paired it with polka dots is so fun!
ReplyDeleteSparkles and stripes - perfect combination! You look great!
ReplyDeleteI almost bought that shirt at Loft and really wish I had now. I love your mix of stripes and polka dots and the smattering of sequins is perfection.

one of my coworkers is sporting this shirt right now and i complimented her too-- look so cute on you! great pattern mixing!!

Well. I just fell in love with your shirt a little. I mean, stripes AND sequins?? Does it get any better?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think hulking out in your shirt (which really made me lol, btw) was a blessing in disguise, because, duh! how perfect for creating less bulk when layering. Your biceps are geniuses, my dear :)
