dschungel

DSC02071
In case you are wondering what that title is, it's the German word for jungle. If you have ever wondered why my name is spelled so weird, it's because it's the German way of spelling Franchesca...because I'm an (permanent) alien in this country and originally from Germany. And jungle in German is dschungel.

maybe I'll start giving you a random German word a day that someone describes my outfit. Today it's dschungel because I felt like I was going on a safari. A cold, Midwest safari, but a safari nonetheless.

*a few weeks ago when I was debating between this scarf and the blue one, I choose the blue one. I then told Emily about all the amazing scarves on clearance, so she went and bought the one I didn't get...and then let me borrow it. What a good friend huh?

  4. Duck face! I wish I looked that cute when checking my camera though... usually I look like I'm getting ready to murder someone.

And please, continue with the German course. My whole family can speak German except for me so I need to learn :)

  5. Thank you for the German lesson! I think I may have a new favourite German word now, replacing my former favourite, flughafen.

    Love your dschungel outfit.

  6. My whole family is German, and every time I visit my great grandma the first thing she asks is "so have you learned to speak German yet?". Guess I should get to that...thanks for the mini language lesson!

  7. That last picture is great, I've had a few of those looks myself when using the timer or shutter release device. How are you standing out in the snow with no coat, I'd be freezing! Love the vest! And I like the idea of a German word a day :)

  8. I love your vest in this outfit. This Old Navy vest is probably one of my favorite army style vests that I've seen.

  9. Ok ok wait.. your name is pronounced "Franchesca"? WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE "FRANZISCA"?! I FEEL LIKE OUR INTERNET BLOGGY FRIENDSHIP HAS BEEN A FRAUD UNTIL NOW.
I forgive you though, from one German to another. My maiden name is Wagner. Doesn't get much more German than that.
    Well, other than Hasselhof.

  18. How exactly do you say this word? I feel like I shouldn't be pronouncing the d.

I might just throw it out in conversation one day. It's all about keeping people on their toes.

P.S. I like this color combination. A lot.

  24. Ok, that face in the last photo makes up about 67% of my photo shoots!

I am still on the fence about the vest. I love it on other people, but I feel like I would look totally ridiculous in it, you know?

    Happy weekend!

  34. OMG, yes, please teach a new German word in each post! My boyfriend is Swiss and I've been trying to learn German in anticipation of moving to Switzerland one day, and I could use all the help I can get.

Where in Germany are you from? When did you move here? This is so interesting!

Also, I love how you styled the vest! I have the same one...you've got good taste, my friend :)

  35. i love that 'dschungel' is the German word for 'jungle. Being Jewish, in Yiddish and in Ivrit (modern Hebrew) he was a few ridiculous ones. My favourites are 'pish' for 'piss' or 'pee', if you're my couth mother, and the all time best: 'pelefon' for 'telephone'. Well played, Israel, well played.

I love this outfit! I missed out on the green vest from ON and got the beige but I still want the green, hmph!

  36. Ahh, I've been semi contemplating whether or not I want a military vest, but this pushes me in the direction of DEFINITELY.

Glad I found your blog..I'm a kind of obsessed with the German language. Not enough to be fluent apparently, but just enough to bother my fiance with random German words and sentences ;)
