After I graduated from college in May 2011, I had somewhat of the "recent graduate blues". Besides the whole "real world" stuff, I'm not exaggerating when I say that all but one of my girl friends moved away to go to graduate school, or go on adventures in other states/countries. Chris was also in the middle of hardcore studying, so I felt really alone a lot of the time. I mentioned that I'm so thankful for all of you blogging friends I now have because you make me feel like I have friends I connect with every day...which is probably why Chris doesn't always understand why I spend so much time typing on my computer ;)
But we all need to have people in our real lives, so this is all just a rambling way to tell my last Madison friend standing, Lizzi, how much I appreciate her. She's the friend that I go to concerts with, the girl I go pilates-ing with, and the girl I call when things don't happen like I want them to. We met up Saturday afternoon just to chat, and I think the signs of a true friend are when you get chat for hours and could keep the conversation going with ease. So thank you Lizzi, for being a true friend, my confidante and sometimes photographer.

P.S. I know some of you have expressed a bit of concern about my bare ankles during the work week. Please know that I'm not some cold ankle baring hussy all day - I park my car in our attached garage at home, and only have to walk about 30 yards from my parking spot into work, so I spend minimal time outside during the winter. On days where it has snowed, I wear either my real boots, or I'll wear my ugly $10 Target fake Uggs into work and change. I didn't want you to think that wearing thin ballet flats is the norm for Wisconsin winters ;)

LOL, I love that people are concerned about your ankles! Cute outfit, very comfy/casual/chic.

Blogger friends have been wonderful for me too- we move every 18mo-3 yrs for husband's job, so it is hard making friends and can get quite lonely. I still keep in touch with my college friends, and they are just a forever special group of friends.
ReplyDeleteI really like the cobalt and dot combo! Perfect weekend outfit
that would be so hard Caroline! I can't even imagine trying to make that work. Blogging friends really are the best then - we're all over but right on your computer :)
Deletelove this scarf!!!it makes the outfit so alive and vibrant:-)!!!cobalt and brown go great together, have to try this color combo:-) Have a lovely week:-)
ReplyDeleteI CALL HUSSY.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I'm not the only one in one in girlfriend deprivation mode. I mean, not glad that you have to go through it too, but so glad to know there's another girl out there who's not "I like hanging out with guys better anyway." IT'S NOT CALLED GUYGIRL TIME IT'S CALLED GIRL TIME.
Samantha @ Sam ipsa loquitur
I think "guygirl time" is called "the sex"
DeleteHAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA stop it I'm choking
DeleteOh, those boots are fantastic! I've heard such good things about Frye boots, but it's one of those things that I'll probably never have enough money to buy, because I have no willpower and spend all my extra money on clothes as soon as I earn it!
ReplyDeleteI feel you on having close girlfriends move away. I have two close girlfriends in town right now, and one of them has a baby and the other has two jobs, so I really don't see them that much :(
I love these boots but I can totally understand why saving up for them would be hard. I used all of my Christmas money last year plus extra obviously. But now that I have them, I'm so happy about it :)
DeleteI love your outfit. I an obsessed with the pattern on your scarf and the color of your boots.
ReplyDeleteI guess, people being concerned for your ankles is one giant step for humanity ;).
Love the shades of blue today!
ReplyDeleteI was just talking to Dh about how I feel I have no more girlfriends anymore... Blargh.
That's what we have each other for, even if we're all just internet friends ;)
DeleteAlthough I'm sure Madison winters are way worse than central Ohio winters, I have the same cheap Target boots for exactly the same reason! :) I'm too stubborn not to wear my flats all year. I do love this look though with the unexposed ankles and cozy sweater! :)

haha I think they're probably similar - all of the Midwest is covered in snow for winter.
DeleteSo glad you had fun with a good friend! Love this blue on you too!

Such a beautiful blue sweater and love your bracelet + watch combo :)
ReplyDeleteI can't pull my eyes away from that sweater! The color is perfect for you. :)
ReplyDeleteBlogging makes me feel like I have a place to hang out with friends too! It's just nice to have gals with similar interests to interact with! And complain with and share online discount codes with. <3
yes! seriously over the last few months I went from having no one to talk to, to having a full inbox. I love that.
Deleteand share those discount codes with the rest of us! ;)
What a unique and interesting backdrop for your photos. = )
ReplyDeleteGirl, you're great. We have so many incredible memories together, and I'm glad we still get to add to our collection of them while we're in the same city.
I'll see you on Tuesday in our gym chic attire.
I bare my ankles like a lunatic in flats every day of the week most of the winter. I am a sucker, or too lazy to carry flats and wear boots/sneakers.
ReplyDeleteI'm going through some of that "recent graduate blues" myself, especially since all of my college friends are back in the US and almost all of my high school friends in Vietnam are married with kids already!
ReplyDeleteLove the casual outfit, by the way.
That would be so hard, since I'm sure your Vietnam friends don't always understand your life in the US and vice versa.
Deletebooooooo :( totally thought I was going to be mentioned in this post lol
ReplyDeleteI did silly! You moved away :(
DeleteI always have bare ankles and have even been known to roll my jeans up in the winter to complete a look. Ballet flats are totally appropriate even in the cold. Wink, wink.
ReplyDeleteI used to have arguments with my mom (in high school) about what I wore, where what I often said actually included "it's just a two minute walk from the parking lot to my locker". Your scarf is so cute, btw!
ReplyDeleteKate @ A Journey in Style
LOL! I hate cold ankles too. I've learned to wear Uggs to work and switch into flats too.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love that scarf!! Co-workers mention my bare legs or ankles all the time.. I just roll my eyes. I live in Atlanta! 50 degrees is really not cold...
ReplyDeleteomg, 50 degrees would be heaven right now! send that heat our way girl :)
DeleteThis bright blue looks great on you - and I love that scarf! I hear ya - I love my bloggy friends - wish I could sit down and have a glass of wine with all of em! Next time I'm in Madison I'll let you know - would LOVE to meet you in person! :)

YES YES AND YES. I would love that!
Deleteso cuuuteee :)

Love the scarf! And old friend who are still around - all of my college friends are around the globe, and seeing them always reminds me how easy it is to know a true friend. We fall right back into it.
ReplyDeleteAnd the comment about your ankles - hilarious!! Such a hussy...!
Haha, the footnote from this post made me laugh. I too feel the need to reassure the people who express their concerns about how cold I must be, haha. It's so sweet of them to care!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is another lovely number. Bright blue looks SO good on you blondes, I'm jaleous :) xo Nikki
it looks just as good on red heads girl!
DeleteI love the cobalt blue sweater! Such a lovely color. What do you think about the quality of Frye boots? I'm thinking of investing in a pair.
ReplyDeleteI love them. I need to talk them into the cobbler to have them professional cleaned and moisturized because I want to take care of them, but the leather is so soft. I don't have any complaints.
DeleteBAHAHA. Thank you for giving me peace of mind about your ankles. I can now sleep at night. But really, I'd sleep better if I had your scarf. Soooooo...how bout it? :)
ReplyDeleteI can TOTALLY relate to what you said in the first part of this post.. I just wrote a similar post where I explained that it's so easy to think people's lives are awesome because of what we post on our blogs. But we forget that everyone gets lonely, sad, angry, mad too! Thanks for stopping by my blog.. P.S. CUTE outfit! :)
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Nikki at www.bedazzlesafterdark.com
I think it's important to be honest Nikki, so I appreciate your post. Life isn't all sparkly shirts and purses - we all have things going on that we don't always talk about.
DeleteI know what you mean about friends. Even though a lot of my friends are still in the area, they're single and live downtown, while I have two kids and live in the suburbs, and we lead completely different lifestyles. I wish I could hang out with them more but I have to be here with my kids, so I end up having most of my friendships with people on the internet (does that sound creepy? yes. But I mean people like YOU so it shouldn't be creepy) and I'm thankful for blogging and the friends Ive made through it :)
ReplyDeleteI love the bright blue paired with the tan! and your frye boots- love them! I will come steal them in the middle of the night while you are sleeping. Think of me as Santa, but opposite.
I think it makes sense to have the internet friends - you can talk to us when you get the chance and no one gets upset if you don't call back right away (but don't you dare start ignoring me or else I'll get pissed. watch out). I seriously was thinking about it today how I feel so much happier now that I have people to talk to again - people that get this weird blogging thing, that understand the loneliness in this part of life, and those who can make a good joke.
Deleteand seriously LOL about Santa. I even quoted you in the forum hahaha
I just discovered your blog, and I'm in the same boat! Graduated from UW-Madison in Dec 2010 and all my friends left town around the same time. Even my boyfriend went off to the Netherlands! It took me a whole year to adjust to my new life and make new friends, but post-grad blues are still fresh in my memory. I hope things are brightening up for you too!
ReplyDeletewe only graduated 6 months apart! After everyone left, they would always say things like "i'm so jealous you are still in Madison, I love it there!" but once you graduate and you have to work and you can't just go to the terrace whenever you want, it's not the same. The post-grad blues are definitely getting a bit better now though, thank you :)
DeleteI always figured Wisconsin got a fair bit of snow and slush, that does makes for cold ankles! I do the same thing, I wear my Bogs around outside and then change into my nice shoes inside, the snow and rock salt can really kill leather and suede. I love your polka dotted scarf, it looks so vibrant against your bright blue sweater and really makes the whole outfit.
ReplyDeleteI could've sworn I already commented on this, but I guess I just thought it. Anyway, I'm going to pretty much steal this exact outfit because I love it so much - gorgeous, gorgeous blue and so cute with the dotted scarf! :)
ReplyDeletehaha Yay the mystery is solved! I thought it was a bit chilly in Wisconsin. I would do the same too and change my shoes.
ReplyDeleteLove the scarf paired with the colbalt sweater. Those are good colors for you :)
Ha-ha thats funny people commented on your ankles! I only noticed because I wear the same pants pretty much every day. :) Psh cold... if you pretend its not there... its not that bad anyway right? :) I drink ice coffee in the winter too :) US cold weather folks are just crazy I guess!
