target does it rarely

DSC00990 I have never been big on buying clothes at Target. I would LOVE to though since their clothes are cute and the price point is right, but I'm slightly too tall that everything looks like it went through the dryer a littttttle too hot. Lord knows that hasn't stopped me from trying though - I'm constantly hoping that their v-neck cardigans would sit right on me or that I can get their fun patterned button-ups to work on me, but they never do.

I was so pumped when I found this dress earlier in the summer (seen here), and I immediately purchased it in two patterns. At the time, I also tried on a light weight white with black stripes tee shirt dress that I thought would be perfect for the summer - cotton, my favorite pattern, long enough short sleeves - the summer trifecta. I HATED it on me. HATED IT. The fabric was too clingy, you could see my belly button through the material, and no amount of nude underwear was going to prevent people from seeing my butt cheeks. Since I was used to the Target disappointment I didn't think too much of it....until today when I found the same dress in a different pattern. Still has all the things I want, but without all the things I didn't want.

The perfect summer dress....no longer online but probably in stores, so run, don't walk.

  1. A great little stripe dress is a must, I found 2 on major sale from J.Crew and Topshop. You look adorable.

  2. Oh, I know - Target does it always with temptation but rarely with fit (my issue is being too short). This dress looks so adorable on you though and perfect with the cognac accents. I'd live in striped t-shirt dresses if I could! And dang the options you listed... OF COURSE I clicked on the budget-buster first.

  3. Holy. Crap. You look INCREDIBLE in this dress! I love how you styled it. :)

  4. I have this dress and LOVE it!! I am like you... always tempted by Target clothes but rarely find anything worth it. The exposed zipper is my favorite part. Not to mention that it's like wearing pajamas to work... so comfortable.

  5. Ooh, I love your dress! Cute pop of color with the shoes, too.

  6. That dress is great, perfect on you! You can never go wrong with stripes. And those shoes make me want to run to a Gap outlet right now.

  9. Hey Fran! I hope Med School is going well for you? It's been a while since I stopped by. I love this dress on you. I looked at the exact one at Target the other day and maybe I need to go back and try it on? Happy Summer!

  10. Of course I have to see this post when Target is closed. Bah! You look smashing in this dress. Absolutely radiant! Oh, side note: I saw that The Limited is going to start carrying a Tall collection (exclusively online), and I thought of you.

  11. Ahhh, this dress. I love it. I wanted to purchase it yesterday, but they were out of my size.

  12. I love Target (especially the cardigans) and all, but your description of the clothes always fitting like they were in a dryer that was a little too hot is SPOT ON.

  14. I LOOOOOVE this dress and have been eyeing it for so long. But now I'm drooling seeing it on you. I might take back the recent striped one I bought and exchange it for this one if I can find it and it somehow works with the bump.

And I REALLY like that Nordstrom version of the Madewell tote you posted. I've wanted that Madewell bag for a while too but haven't pulled the trigger. The Nordstrom one looks fantastic!

  15. FRAN does it again. Seriously, your wardrobe is so classic and fun. Like the unexpected pop of pink in those sandals. Also, I don't know how to say this without sounding mildly creepy, but whatever. I think we have twin birthmarks on our legs. My pediatrician told me (I don't still see one, for the record) back in the day that mine is called cafe au lait, which means coffee with milk. I have a brown birthmark on the front of my leg and a white one on the side of my leg. I use them as my "tan or vampire?" barometer. I have no idea why I'm still publishing this comment, but I made it this far. I might as well follow through.

  16. Glad you found your perfect summer dress. I haven't been shopping much at Target lately, I have come to realize that their clothes just don't fit me that well and it's really not that cheap (unless it was on super clearance). I found some great sleeveless stripe dress from Old Navy for $9 and I love that it's not too short.

  17. What! I need this dress too! Which brand? How much?! ahhh

  18. Yeah, I don't really understand the"Target does it again" sentiment, especially for the designer collabs. I can't get on board with overpriced polyester. That said, this dress is beautiful on you. I'm surprised you found such a gem there!

    1. I totally agree. Sometimes there's a piece or two I really like on it's own, not for the fact that it's "designer" but I'm not going to fight someone in the aisles for it!

  23. Oh it must be soooooo hard for you being a tall, sexy drink of water. ;)
Meanwhile I have the opposite problem at Target...sometimes the smallest size is still too big for a runt like me. If only it were easier for me to give you some of my extra fabric. Then we would both look amazing.

  27. This dress looks PERFECT on you! And what's better than buying the same item in two colors, buying it in two patterns! I would never even know it was the same dress! When something works and is the right price, I totally do it too! I haven't had much luck at Target as of lately. I know what you mean about things being too short. Gosh darnit!

  28. CUTE! I'm going there tonight to look for this. I've had the same problem with their fabric, especially maxi dresses. Too clingy and totally sheer. I'm just going to go out and buy everything you post on here, mmkay?

    1. I feel the same way! I've been looking for a maxi dress for probably 3 years and have never had any luck...but sometimes Target really pulls through. and yes, we can totally be twins :)

  32. I bought this stripe and the thin stripe in this dress. It is quickly disappearing at my Target! I love it with the belt by itself. Both times I styled it, I layered it. This is a great idea for it by itself.

  35. Keep an eye on the red saltwaters on Amazon! I bought mine on there for $25! They are so comfortable - I'd actually be willing to pay full price for them. The first wear feels a little tight but every wear after that has been perfect. :)

  37. I used to be a total Target clothing diehard, but I haven't shopped for clothing there in ages (their shoes, on the other hand, are the greatest). Their clothes tend to be for people who are kind of rectangular shaped, which I am not...and I agree with them being geared toward shorter people. I'm 5'8", which isn't suuuper tall, but I have ridiculously long legs, and their pants rarely fit me (they're also super hippy, and I'm not). Long- sleeved shirts look shrunken on me, as well :( I do have a few of their dresses, though, that I really like! I'm glad you have been able to find a couple that work for you!!

  38. Oh dang, I think I tried on the first pattern that you tried on and hated it too, I'll have to go back and try this pattern because it was definitely still in stock!
